About the Project
This recording is part of the larger “Fixing the Beethoven Mistake” initiative — a multi-year research and performance project that reconstructs not only Beethoven’s original tempos, but also those of other 19th-century composers such as Chopin, Schumann and many more.
At the heart of this approach is Whole Beat Metronome Practice (WBMP): a historically grounded way of reading metronome markings.
This is more than a CD set — it’s a rethinking of how 19th-century music was meant to sound.
